Lake Tahoe Nordic Skiing for the 2007/2008 season features complete guides to all of Tahoe's cross country ski resorts and ski areas. We include enough information to bring any novice to the area up to date on the many choices for Nordic skiing and snowshoeing in Lake Tahoe. For each cross country ski resort and area you will find information on their terrain, amenities, trail rates, events, special programs, ski and snowshoe rentals, lessons, children's facilities and more.

Every area has its own unique charm, from the extensive trail system and beautiful vista views of the nations largest cross country ski resort, Royal Gorge, to several privately owned ski areas around the Tahoe basin that offer spectacular panoramic views of the lake from varying elevations. You can stride or skate in open meadows, explore secluded valleys, climb scenic overlooks or follow meandering mountain streams through aspen and pine forests to frozen alpine lakes. Great pleasures abound in Lake Tahoe for back country skiing and the adventurous can even sign up for full moon tours or overnight snow-camping.

The Sierra mountains historically get more snow, and more of the white stuff falls at one time, than anywhere else in the United States. Two to four foot dumps are not uncommon, creating an excellent base for snow sports! Lake Tahoe has a collection of micro-climates, so there's always varying snow depths and conditions.
