    • Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery presents Susan Murrell
      • Susan Murrell is an emerging artist from Hood River, OR, who will create an eclectic and detailed installation in the gallery. Murrell
        uses invented biomorphic imagery to create a visual language to explore the acquisition and recall of knowledge. Her large installations contain
        watercolor and pen drawings, gouache paintings on vellum, latex sculptures, encaustic and printmaking. Murrell’s installation process will be open to
        the public as she creates her piece. Sheppard Gallery will invite two undergraduate students work as Murrell’s assistants, an honor which gives our
        students first-hand knowledge of an artist’s process.

      • Tails by the Lake is once again hosting the Animal Gift Giving Tree this holiday season. Help support the local homeless dogs and cats in shelters by donating a collar, toy, treat or bed to a sheltered animal this holiday season. Bring your own gift or receive 25% off your purchase for donation at Tails by the Lake – all the gifts will be given to the sheltered dogs and cats on Christmas Eve so they too can have a Happy HOWLiday. Come by the Village at Squaw Valley and pick out an ornament on the Animal Gift Giving Tree representing the many homeless pets currently sheltered by the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe. Simply pick an ornament off the tree and help supply that pup or kitty with any item of your choice.

    • The Asian Clam Invasion: Nearshore Invasive Species in Lake Tahoe
      • Over the past century, there have been a number of intentional and unintentional introductions of non-native species to Lake Tahoe. These introductions have had a variety of impacts on the lake; affecting lake clarity, native species, trophic interactions, and the potential facilitation of other non-native species introduction and establishment. UC Davis researchers recently discovered large populations of clams in some near shore areas in the southeast corner of Lake Tahoe. It has been confirmed that these are the invasive species Corbicula fluminea, also known as the Asian clam.

Catch jolly old St. Nick skiing and snowboarding around the mountain, sliding rails in the Belmont Terrain Park, skating at the Olympic Ice Pavilion, assisting with lessons, and entertaining children at the Squaw Kids Ski School.
