      • Last year over 700 riders helped generate $34,000.00 for the Music Programs of the North Tahoe Middle and High Schools.

    • Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln's Journey to Emancipation
      • The Fourth Ward School is one of only forty venues throughout the country for this traveling exhibition that focuses on Lincoln's quest to restore a Union divided by Civil War. The exhibition shows how Lincoln's beliefs about freeing the slaves were transformed by war-time developments.

On Saturday, Kirkwood’s Annual 5K/10K Race & Fun Run starts at 9 a.m. The fun continues in the afternoon with the Thin Air Chili Cook-Off from 1-3 p.m. complemented by live music by Sunday @ Ed’s from 1-4 p.m. On Sunday, Kirkwood will host its annual Ski Swap from 9 a.m.-noon, where bargains on equipment and apparel help get people ready for the upcoming ski season. Also, Kirkwood Mountain Sports will have its Labor Day sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The Community Tennis Tournament will be held from 9 a.m.-noon and includes lunch and prizes. This weekend is also the last to get season passes before prices go up on Tuesday, Sept. 5.     • 4th Annual Tour De Tahoe - Bike Big Blue
      • The 72-mile Tour de Tahoe – Bike Big Blue course circumnavigates the highways clockwise around Lake Tahoe in both Nevada and California and the ride is recommended for conditioned recreational bicyclists, not for beginners. Participants must be at least 14 years of age (no children, please) and must be experienced in riding roadways.
      • For the recreational bicyclist who would like to mix sightseeing and bicycling, the Boat Cruise & 35-mile Lake Tahoe Half Ride Fun Tour is offered. The ride starts at 6:45 am with a short 1-mile ride to Ski Run Marina where you and your bike board the Tahoe Queen Paddle Wheeler for a scenic boat cruise to North Lake Tahoe. From there, you will join the ride course for the remaining 35-mile ride back to the Horizon Casino Resort.

Funds raised go to programs dedicated to providing affordable, physical and recreational activities that build health and confidence for the physically disabled. The event will also benefit No Barriers USA, a northern California non-profit corporation that is dedicated to increasing active participation in the outdoors for people with disabilities.

      • It has been nearly a decade since the AVP Tour last visited the area and it will be the first time for Lake Tahoe that both the men and women will compete in the same tournament. Throughout this four-day event, top professional athletes will be competing at MontBleu for the title of AVP “Best of the Beach.” In the final event of the 2006 AVP Crocs Tour, this double-elimination invitational is an opportunity for eight of the top men’s and women’s teams to compete.     • NASTC Rock Climbing & Mountain Biking Courses
