Lake Tahoe is largest alpine lake in North America., the second deepest Lake in the United States and the eighth deepest in the world with an average of 1,400,000 tons of water (1/10th of an inch) evaporating from Lake Tahoe everyday. Over the course of one year, this evaporation could supply the city of Los Angeles with water for 5 years.
Lake Tahoe is fed by 63 streams and two hot springs. While ice may form along shoreline inlets, Lake Tahoe has never been known to freeze. It is noted that the volume of water in the lake would cover California in 14.5 inches of water, while Texas would be under 8.5 inches.
